Colibri Biomed

Experience freedom with our intelligent insulin system, seamlessly managing every meal, activity, and day, offering peace of mind to focus on what truly matters, free from constant treatment-related worries.

Solution

A worry-free, safer insulin therapy solution

Managing Type 1 Diabetes becomes effortless with the Colibri Biomed Insulin Pump. The system automatically adjusts insulin delivery in real-time, even during meals, removing the need for carb counting or manual data entry. Whether during meals or exercise, the pump continuously adapts to the body’s needs, allowing users to focus on their daily lives instead of managing their insulin therapy. However, for those who prefer more control, the option to announce meals remains available.

Additionally, Colibri Biomed incorporates an advanced safety sensor that detects occlusions and flow anomalies in the insulin delivery system, ensuring consistent and reliable therapy. This technology provides peace of mind, offering safer, worry-free diabetes management by automatically monitoring and adjusting insulin delivery whenever necessary.

Mission

Colibri Biomed mission

Colibri was founded with the mission to develop, produce and sell the next generation closed-loop system designed to make Type 1 Diabetes management effortless and safer
through fully automatic, intuitive and reliable technology that fits seamlessly into patients’ lives.

The company aims to achieve this through a discreet insulin pump powered by a proprietary safety sensor and an advanced control algorithm, ensuring continuous adaptation to the patient’s needs. This technology fully automates insulin delivery, even during meals and exercise. With Colibri Biomed, patients experience seamless, worry-free diabetes care, enabling them to focus on their lives rather than the complexities of their treatment.

ColibrI technology

Colibri technology

Colibri Biomed has a patented fully automatic control algorithm for an artificial pancreas that regulates glucose levels without meal or exercise announcements. Optional meal announcements allow the system to coordinate prandial boluses and insulin delivery. The algorithm adjusts insulin and glucagon delivery or recommends rescue carbohydrates, operating in both single- and dual-hormone modes. It runs with low computational load and can be embedded in the Colibri Biomed pump’s firmware. In silico results show over 80% Time in Range without meal announcements and over 90% TIR with them. Clinical trials are underway.

The Colibri Biomed safety sensor enhances insulin delivery safety by detecting occlusions and flow anomalies, ensuring accurate infusion. Integrated into the first pump prototype, it provides real-time measurement to prevent therapy disruptions, offering peace of mind for patients and providers. The sensor is now in verification and industrialization stages.

All these innovations are integrated into a new, discreet insulin pump, which will complete the fully automated artificial pancreas system.
